Camp Info

"It is important to get proper instruction on your instrument at a young age, and equally important to have opportunities to play music with other musicians. The Maryland Trumpet Institute is a unique and fantastic summer program, bringing together young trumpet players to take advantage of both these opportunities. Programs like this are rare, and Brent has developed a true gem in Maryland for budding trumpeters. "

Maryland Trumpet Institute Summer Camp is designed for students who love all things trumpet and want to learn more about this awesome instrument. We start each day with a group warm-up session lead by one of our faculty.  After warm up, we discuss one aspect of the technique of playing trumpet, including breathing, tonguing, flexibility, range, etc.  Printed exercises are given to students throughout the week so that by the end of the week they have a collection to practice from and knowledge learned during technique sessions.  After this we have a special session including history of the trumpet and natural/baroque trumpet playing, jazz improvisation, the science behind how the trumpet works, etc.  Students get an hour for lunch which includes listening/watching to great trumpet players as well as fun activities and games.  After lunch trumpet ensembles rehearse.  We perform a concert on the final day of camp of both ability based small trumpet ensembles and large ensemble with everyone playing together.

Students from 5th through 12th grade learn everyday and gain a new depth of knowledge about the trumpet.  At the same time they meet new friends, build new interest in music and have fun!
